Feeling a lot of love from you guys recently, and it is much appreciated. It is really exciting, the dialogue and movement beginning here, and I am blessed to be a part of it. Thank you for reading, commenting, caring, dreaming. This might be the most useful ch00n I’ve come across in a while. Defining patriotism and big room house simultaneously, friend of DBDF, DJ Skeet Skeet has taken the liberty of doing a Barrack Obama/Laidback Luke mash up. I, for one, am having trouble coming up with a more effective hype beast. On the note of sensi gratitude and wonder that started this post, I am a firm believer that HOPE IS REAL, CHANGE IS HERE. I am FEELING this track. This is a fucking high energy after hours slamming jawn that makes me shake my head and close my eyes and swing my hips. I like that it’s really anonymous sounding, too. There is something to be said about songs that have absolutely no narrative, that just kind of drop in and roll hard for like seven minutes. Interestingly, though I had never heard of Cardo, dude is apparently 19 years old (and really proud of that fact, as it is his myspace headline) and Italian. Other than the fact that this is really solid production and a generally killer track, there’s not much else to be said.

After a couple of weeks lacking in inspiration, I have recently been graced by the torrent gods with massive amounts of great techno. PRAISE THEM! and the unlimited Rapidshare account! This track is from the Freak Show Vol. 4 Compilation. While most of the artists on said comp I had never heard of, every one of them was solid and well produced. This track is a good minimal jawn with a nice little vocal drop appropriate for keeping a slow-build set moving. Really vibey and educational, it’d be nice to pair with something a little bit more driving and play with the EQs, adding and subtracting around it subtly. We’re moving into the master class, kids; the last few months have been all about seeing the best of the best at work and applying the principles to my own sets. I hope the education transfers. I am really excited to blog about this, the first time an original/collab from yours truly is on DBDF. You may remember Danny Daze/Discotech from previous entries discussing our miamigo (miami amigo. ZING). Dude is extraordinarily talented (Miami’s #1 Club DJ), has great taste and is totally awesomely creepy (the reason we’re friends, actually, as I share this trait). I am pretty psyched on our work together. While I’m forbidden from posting a downloadable version, I strongly urge you to check out ‘I AM THE BEAT’, as it is up on his Myspace HERE. Do it. In my understanding, one of the defining principles of minimal techno is the careful addition and subtraction of one ingredient at a time. This hypnotic, subtle art can be totally fucking lame and boring if it’s done wrong, but GODDAMN, WHEN IT’S ON, IT’S ON. Here is an example of the latter scenario. Self described ‘Trance pioneer’, Mijk Van Dijk, has apparently been producing dance music since ‘92. I had not heard of him prior to this slayer, which is tight and hot. I like how it keeps a driving energy without getting out of control or stupid or peaky. Good for a builder track at the beginning of a long, epic set. Delicious.

Greg Cerrone - Bullit (Miles Dyson Remix)

When I originally listened to this track on a run, I was kind of “whatever” about it; it didn’t make me go faster or inspire flight. However, upon a closer look, I have to admit my first impressions were wrong. This is a subtle, moody builder and when the driving laser bass kicks in at around 1:30, you have a really unique, filthy, urgent jammy that is potentially frustrating because of the massive rhythmic shift at 3 minutes in. That said, the track is allegedly 128 but feels a lot slower, which could make it incredibly useful for crossing the bridge between techno and dubstep at half speed. Just saying.

As a completely unrelated side note, I’m writing post-Halloween from Juarez, Mexico, where we played last night (as Staccato) with Audiofly, Tiefshwarz (ON 3 CDJs AND 2 TURNTABLES) and Steve Lawler. Today the bill includes Soulwax/2ManyDJs, Adam Freeland and James Zabiela. IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE TO SEE ANY OF THESE DUDES, TAKE IT. This has been an amazing and incredibly educational experience, watching masters at work. Big fucking shout out and endless love to the people of Juarez because their total devotion to dance music is unparalleled by anywhere else in the world. By 8pm kids were standing on tables and sitting on each others shoulders and doing call/response whistle tracks to EVERY SONG. What.

Alright, well once in awhile I just get stuck on something completely off-target. You might use this, you might not. You WILL enjoy it though… If you haven’t already. I was surprised to see that the all mighty AND glorious Hype Machine only had 1 documented post of this, and it was out-dated (no longer available to mellow out to). I can honestly tell you that I held a beef against Kanye for awhile. He was a dick, and by my perception, wasn’t deserving of the rep that he had acquired… Not to mention the most idiot shiver inducing award show appearance of all time that I would do anything to forget about. Now, I feel like he has proven himself to be human (humble, collaberative, honest), and I have become severely obsessed with his latest album for the reasons mentioned above. Transformation is a sexy thing. Halloween was a perfect time to cruise the streets, looking for trouble and reflecting on the friendships that make the ass end of October so adventurous. This was the theme song of my deep thoughts tonight.

HOLY SHIT! Talk about a hustle and a grind. I cannot even begin to explain what I have been doing in my absence, but I can assure you that I have been spending day, night, and dreams (literally) on some very big things that you will notice very soon. Luckily, momma blog herself has been blessing you with what I can see has been the very best of the best. We are also very proud to have been placed on Hype Machine’s Hottest Blogs for what looks like a few solid weeks now. The kind of support does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. THIS IS A FUCKING MONSTER. I don’t know where it was hiding in my iTunes, but I (re?)discovered it today to my great pleasure, and have been kind of stomping around the apartment and rocking like an autistic child to the bass since. Berlin’s awesome O.G. Modeselektor, usually sticking to the techy tip on Ellen Allien’s BPitch label, has gone all out Dub Wars style on this track. While apparently I’ve been living in a basement closet in the middle of a uber-rural field, Ghislain Poirier has been blowing up Montreal, remixing (his Kid Sister/Lil Mama remixes are notable for being really original and interesting: KS, LM) and throwing reallyreallyreally good parties. I have been attempting to get a more thorough dubstep education in past month or so (recommendations welcome), and this satisfies a deep hunger to dive into the deep end. Hold my hand while we cannonball.

I love pianos. And poppy French Gypsy house (”Caravan”? Lulz). This track is really good for car rides through desolate places when you feel like your life is a movie, and also closing cosmic disco and classic house sets with a feel-good (but somehow bittersweet) jammy jam. The chorus of “Everybody’s happy to believe in love” is a good anthemic singalong thang, and it feels somehow appropriate for right now. I want to believe in love, don’t you? Thanks for the album, SD.
